Reiki is very much in everyone’s
consciousness today.
It is the "in thing" too. In
the overwhelming rush for Reiki, sometimes we may be unable to recognise authentic Reiki,
and settling for something else, we may be cheated or disappointed.
Reiki is unconditional love, empowered
higher knowledge, and gives the result where one can be free of all dis-ease, especially
"material dis-ease", the karma syndrome. There is no higher qualification of the
spiritual anywhere. It is easily available today as Reiki, not through any great
eligibility of ours, but purely by the grace of the Divine having compassion on our
sufferings.
You get your Reiki
connection according to your karma which in turn is created according to your inner
desire. Therefore desire sincerely for the highest possible connection - "I
don’t know what is the highest and best for me and my life, but whatever it is,
please let it appear."
It took us over three years of actively
working towards this connection and desiring and waiting before we could get an authentic
link with Reiki. So do not lose patience.
When we received our Reiki connection,
the availability of Reiki was restricted. However, by divine grace, now many masters are
available offering different approaches to Reiki.
Although the energy is the same, the view
and teaching method of each master may be different. This is good because each of us may
be attracted to certain presented aspects of Reiki work which a particular master may
offer. On the other hand, there may be certain things that are not authentic, not genuine,
and we may learn this too late.
This chapter will
help you decide how to recognise an authentic Reiki connection. Please understand that
while trying to recognise an authentic source of Reiki the judgmental-critical mind should
not be allowed free play in the sense of criticising from an emotional standpoint.
However, since the only function of the lower mind is to evaluate or compare one thing
with another, we may understand that the lower mind is always critical. This does not mean
we are unable to call a spade a spade when we see it - only that we do not criticise from
an emotional or false ego platform of being superior. An observation of fact is not a
criticism.
• Keeping this understanding in view, we may
begin to evaluate whether we shall be able to receive maximum benefit according to our own
temperament from a particular Reiki master.
While selecting a
doctor or another professional, or doing business and so on, one normally applies certain
standards to check out the record and success rate of the individual. Similarly we may
acquaint ourselves with what a Reiki Master’s record is by looking at his life and
the lives of the Reiki channels created by such a Master.
Again, this is not
to be done as a judgmental or critical thing, but to see what is the pattern.
In the life of a
Master and the lives of his created Reiki channels working with commitment, an abundance
of all positive energies must have visibly materialised. In practical terms, we find that
this generally means:
• The Reiki channel’s inner health and
life shifts radically within 48 hours; the external starts shifting usually within 21 days
of the Reiki connection.
• Within six months to year, the channel is
living a life full of abundance of joy, happiness, health, creativity and wealth.
• There is no shortage of any of these
positive qualities in the channels’s lives, although they may want these qualities to
increase and may think they do not have enough.
• On comparing their original condition it is
observed that their diseased life situation has been reversed, to a new positive
direction.
This is the minimum attainable standard
Therefore, look at the lives of Reiki channels created by a Master and among them find out
what has happened to those who have been doing Reiki with commitment. The period of time
for such results may vary, but the general and specific improvements must be apparent.
Therefore ask - in what way have their
lives shifted? What health, wealth, creative and spiritual benefits are they enjoying?
If the practical results are there, and
you experience good vibrations with the Master - go for it!
On the technical side, a genuine
connection with Reiki means:
• The chakras in the individual’s energy
body have been opened properly, an effective level of Reiki connection has been made, and
sufficient past-life karma has been dissolved - healed. The energy must have stabilised
through a minimum of 21 days of self-healing since the attunement.
• Appropriate guidance has been given to the
individual so that he is capable of healing his mental-emotional and physical problems.
• Guidance has been given to such a level that
the individual has the capacity to heal his relationships and issues which have been
causing disease at all levels.
• The new Reiki channel is fully capable of
healing all karmic disharmonies and at the advanced degrees of Reiki is able to harmonise
his whole existence becoming a complete master of his destiny, with no more helplessness
in any situation in life.
• Reiki raises ones total vibratory rate
(mental-emotional, physical, and revealed spiritual) to a much higher degree to connect
with one’s higher and pure self. If individuals have practiced self-development
methods of yoga, meditation or religious processes, they will gain from the point these
processes have brought them presently.
• The key effect of Reiki is that it cleanses,
purifies, heals and harmonises at all levels so that the pure, beautiful and joyful
non-material element within each individual manifests fully within this lifetime. All
hidden and dormant positive qualities open up and flower.
For many, this happens almost instantly, so that
they experience joy and happiness not comparable to any in their previous experience
regardless of external circumstances. Subsequent to this other benefits follow.
• Reiki is not a religious, sectarian, faith
or belief system of healing.
• Reiki can be understood at different levels
according to one’s inclination. It may be taken as a body-mind-emotion integrating
and healing system freeing us from disease, or it may be taken at its highest level as a
way of gaining freedom from all material ailments, including: birth, death, old age and
disease. This is the highest realization and experience of the Grandmasters of Reiki.
Cheapie Reiki, Shaky Reiki, and
Quickie Reiki
We regularly see and hear from people who choose to
get Reiki from "Masters who charges less". These masters spend a few hours with
the new Reiki channels, dispense the minimum of information on Reiki healing methods and
are rarely seen again, if at all. To such recipients of "Quickie Reiki" we point
out that they are getting only what they invite and accept.
Some masters are giving different degrees of Reiki
attunements rapidly one after the other. We know of cases where the Reiki First and Second
Degrees are given consecutively over two days, and the Third and Mastership Degrees a few
days later.
• This comes from complete ignorance regarding
the function of Reiki and a lack of respect for previous Reiki Masters through whom Reiki
revealed authentic methods of attunement and initiation.
Radically changing traditional methods of Reiki
handed down by Grandmasters is rarely to be done; and if done may be done purposefully and
carefully and not on a whimsical basis and understanding that, "I am a Reiki Master
and therefore can do as I please according to my internal guidance." A lot of
"guidance" is "garbage", the only thing in common being the first
letter of each word - "g"!
• Any "guidance" which contradicts
the fundamental principles of Reiki workings must be understood as being "garbage". The Grandmasters of Reiki
revealed certain methods of Reiki work according to universal energy principles and the
results of Reiki healings. These are very valid today, and in this book we deal with the
basic fundamentals and some advanced knowledge of Reiki.
• Beware of all "Quickie Reiki"
mechanics - in effect you will be cheated with total certainty.
One of the major functions of the Reiki initiation
is to align and harmonise the emotional and health auras with the spiritual and the
physical bodies. When the initiation is given, at that time the Reiki Master brings down
extra energy (according to his own spiritual development) for the new Reiki channel which
energy then cycles in the 7 major chakras one day at a time.
The energy makes three such passes through the 7
major chakras in each of the major aura bodies to align
and harmonise them over the three seven days cycles over a total of 21 days.
This is the main significance of the 21 day
cleansing and healing cycle. As much self-healing is practised by the new Reiki channel at
this time, to that extent the healing results increase.
Subsequently time is required for the new Reiki
channel to absorb and integrate with the energies and new health conditions. This is a
relatively delicate matter.
Higher level initiations when done rapidly before
adequate time has passed, interfere grossly with the 21 day healing cycle. Further, as the
energy body of the individual is not very developed, the excess energy is not absorbed but
sits on the outer edge of the aura and dissipates out slowly.
This means that usually the second degree
initiations where given the next day or within a few days, do not "take" - they
are simply not effective because the individual’s channels are insufficiently open.
Further, the chakras are invariably damaged or distorted by these untimely procedures,
inviting reactions such as described for the kundalini syndrome.
• This is a total waste and quite naturally
when the results don’t come, one may come to the understandable but totally incorrect
conclusion that "Reiki doesn’t work". And such statements serve only to
block the further flow of Reiki temporarily, requiring some cleansing reactions which are
quite avoidable.
Clearly those conveying such "wholesale"
initiations have little understanding of what Reiki is, let alone how Reiki works and do a
deep dis-service to the cause of Reiki for which serious correctional consequences must
ultimately be faced by them. However when this happens to anyone of us, it must be
understood that this is the inevitable consequence of trying to take unworkable
"short-cuts", or get something for nothing or "less".
• Reiki is purely a Divine energy and one
cannot "buy" or cheat Reiki in this manner.
• Approaching Reiki with a cheating mentality
will get one a "cheating master" without fail.
Vedic wisdom states that in this millennium32, the predominant relationship between teachers of higher knowledge
and students (guru-shishya) will be that of the "cheater and the cheated".
Shopping
for Reiki
If you go "shopping" for Reiki, please
understand that just like shopping at the supermarket or store, the cheapest is not always
the best and similarly the most expensive need not be the best. "Cheapie Reiki"
may mean you get nothing for what you pay, while looking for the "imported" and
"famous" or "better master" may mean you may get nothing because of
possible offense, just as Master R. experienced and we describe further on.
Always ask what you are getting. Is the Master
available for further guidance, are there any review meetings, is there adequate
instruction in writing or otherwise - what is the practical end-result? See what is
happening in the students’ lives - are they helpless, or have they changed themselves
around?
Are their lives transformed? Ask these questions
without challenging please! If you do not like what you see, or do not get satisfactory
answers, move on.
• Desire deeply to receive the highest and best
for yourself and one day it shall manifest in your life turning your whole existence
around. Be sincere. Feel this in your heart.
Finally, beware of the shopping mentality itself.
We have the case of a Reiki Master, Mr. R. who
received Reiki initiations and re-initiations from many Reiki masters in the expectations
that he would receive "higher benefits" automatically.
He was attuned, re-attuned and over-attuned by two
masters from Mumbai, one from Hong Kong, one from Germany, and one from America -
receiving the Mastership attunement and knowledge from two of them. At the end of it he
still remained frustrated and "not healed" and approached us for help in
desperation.
We found that his "shopping mentality" had
actually been offensive to the masters because his stated understanding for seeking other
masters was: "I was not getting better and I thought it must be because of some
defect in the master’s attunement process." He became critical of the first
Master and this attitude went with him to every Master he subsequently met.
On meditating on his condition we saw that the
result was that only the Reiki-1 energies flowed through him, all subsequent attunements
did not manifest because of the offense of being critical and judgmental of the Masters
while thinking that he himself was being very sincere.
This was his illusion: He went looking for
‘famous masters’ thinking that just by the fact of receiving attunements from
‘famous’, ‘imported’, and the ‘better Masters’ he could
become a Reiki Master without doing more than mechanically placing the Reiki energy on
different body parts. He did not want to work on himself and he did not want to change his
attitudes or platform.
When he came to us he did not even remember the
purpose of the msytic symbols of Reiki. All the confidential knowledge about Reiki given
to him by the Masters had vanished from his consciousness, becoming unavailable to him
because of offense.
His original condition had been, "I am the way
I am and unwilling to change my inner attitudes - it is Reiki’s and the initiating
master’s responsibility...I am here to receive only."
Even so, Reiki did not abandon him, but finally
brought his understanding to the point when he was internally ready to acknowledge that he
may be at fault and was willing to rectify his fault. Only then did Reiki guide him to
seek us out.
We gave R. guidance and advised him to audit33 the Reiki Experience first degree seminar and told him he would be
fine with that R. was surprised, "How will I get the benefit without the
attunements?"
Nalin said, "The masters from whom you have
received attunements do a good job. The attunements are not the problem. Your basic and
higher understanding of Reiki is lacking, as is your attitude of gratitude. Understand and
acknowledge this....apologize to the masters for the offense through Reiki....and you will
he healed."
So he did, and so he is being healed. The energies
of the first degree of Reiki are flowing beautifully through him without any need for
re-attunement of Reiki-1. (Now he has been attuned to the Reiki second Degree by us and R.
reports that for the first time he is feeling the energy at every point he places his
hands. He is very grateful.)
• The greatest twin obstacle to our
self-healing is offense arising out of false ego. This false ego or false identification
of our self, our essential position, needs the most healing.
There is also a working or positional ego which is
necessary for executing one’s daily work. A mother is in an authoritative position
over the child, the supervisor is in an authoritative position over the child, the
supervisor is in an authoritative position over the clerk, the teacher is in an
authoritative position over the student, and so on. However, this does not mean that each
authoritative position is the final one. It is relative and limited and each one of us is
subject to higher authorities and the highest divine authority ultimately.
It is necessary to harmonise and balance these
positions and our awareness that divine Reiki flows through us, with the position of the
false ego which insists that one is the "supreme controller". This is the key
point with regard to false ego and easily understood when one is a practising Reiki
channel.
Guru Reiki and Khitcheree Reiki
A category of masters are on a "guru" trip
where a dependency pattern is built up in total contradiction to Reiki’s fundamental
quality which is: each one becoming responsible for oneself.
Certainly the Master must give of himself
sufficiently for guidance, but the path is of self-healing and consequent self-discovery.
The Master is a facilitator. He does not possess the created Reiki channel.
Additionally, there are "self-proclaimed
masters" who claim to have received "guidance" that without receiving any
higher initiations or knowledge, they are able to convey Reiki initiations. We observe
that their so called attunements do absolutely nothing except generate huge negative karma
for themselves.
Some of these self-proclaimed masters have technical
information on attunements from an American book on Reiki which reveals some aspects of
confidential procedures. However, because of lack of empowerment the self-proclaimed
masters promote only a cheating system
And then there are those who project a speculative
hotch-potch of procedures in the name of the "New Age/Golden Age" or other such
concoctions including "Karuna Reiki". (Khitcheree Reiki). Such persons market a
concoction taking bits and pieces from sectarian religions or intellectual speculations in
an attempt to make the whole thing palatable to a larger public. Sometimes en masse
initiations of a few hundred people are done simultaneously one day and the following day
the second degree of Reiki is given.
When naturally the results are not seen, the people
blame Reiki
Shaky
Reiki
Most dangerous are those irresponsible persons who
openly or in a hidden way give so-called "Ascension" initiation. (Shaky Reiki).
The trusting population accepts it, only to forcefully have their higher chakras torn
open, damaging them, creating psychological problems and illness which are often very
severe.
We witnessed this in a seminar
held by a Master from Bombay, where two persons became seriously affected, and were later
clinically diagnosed as schizophrenic and manic-depressive.
• It must be clearly understood that such a
procedure has nothing to do with Reiki whatsoever. It is an absolute concoction. You can
recognize "Ascension" or "Elevation" at two stages:
Before initiation or attunement: if you come across
a New Age or other far out Reiki Master, find out from the Master or the Master’s
students in a general way how they view "Ascension" or kundalini yoga. You may
get to know the reality quickly. (Many so-called masters are often not aware that the
procedure they are following is "Ascension"!) Many such masters falsely
advertise themselves as Teachers of Traditional Reiki. We distanced ourselves from our
first Reiki master because of this and other serious disagreements.
The second way of recognising "Ascension"
is that the persons having received this become progressively restless, hyperactive,
mentally and emotionally disturbed and irritable.
They may also become very opinionated and
argumentative in general. Or, they may have totally outlandish ideas which are neither
practical nor demonstrable and involve a progression of disharmony rather than harmony.
All these manifest as a chronic settled state with little likelihood of improvement.
There are clinical medical terms for this, but it is
sufficient to understand that these are not positivities.
In fact, these are all quite the opposite qualities
and symptoms from those which Reiki develops.
If somehow you are in a Reiki Seminar and the Master
announces that he or his assistants are now going to present you a gift from their
"spiritual master" or going to "elevate" you further after Reiki, know
that this is a danger mark.
Please ask: "Have the four Reiki attunements
been done...? Is this a part of the Reiki attunements...?" If the answer is
unsatisfactory, or if the procedure is admittedly one of "Ascension" or
"kundalini", the best option is to have nothing further to do with the
procedure, request Reiki to protect you, make good your escape with thanks to Reiki!
What is "Ascension"?
This ascension procedure is actually a
"kundalini jagriti" (awakening the kundalini) technique and can be extremely
dangerous. The unfortunate part of this whole system is that this so-called ascension
procedure is totally unnecessary for Reiki channels (or anyone else!).
We have observed that Reiki gradually heals all
blocks in the subtle channels (nadis), allowing the kundalini to rise naturally to the
sahasraar (crown) chakra and beyond without any distress. The bogus ascension procedure
actually prevents this from happening and further invites serious repercussions at the
cost of health.
The kundalini energy is the body’s store of
life-energy. Knowledgeable vedic authorities state that, and we re-confirm this by
observation: when the kundalini rises from its seat at the base of the spine to the
highest chakras above the head (sahasraar and above) through the central channel of the
energy body (sushumma nadi), liberation from material existence takes place35.
This observation has led to the availability of many
mechanical "yoga" "yoga kriyas" and "yoga-type" of
procedures to reach this goal which are brought to the attention of the general public
from time to time under various names. This process is not at all recommended by any
genuine authority for the general public nor has it even been, and nor is it recommended
for this day and age.
Some of the uses this is being put to are
extraordinary. Last year we came across a lady who was a high functionary in such a
kundalini organisation and who was very keen to have us learn this technique from her. The
stated benefit was that we would be able to have astral-body sexual encounters with anyone
we liked even without their knowledge - more or less like astral rape. Fortunately, we
were able to extricate ourselves from this encounter before we received more information
in graphic detail!
At the same time, notwithstanding such extremes, let
us make no mistake in understanding that artificial and untimely mechanical raising of the
kundalini, as in "Ascension" or other purported "yogic" type of
procedures, is a real event and particularly dangerous.
This is so especially where the energy body channels
(nadis of Ayurveda) are not opened and cleaned by self-purification procedures. In such
conditions, the upward ascending kundalini energy invariably gets stuck at certain points
creating distortions and damages to the chakras and results in disease.
It many also go into the wrong channels causing
insanity or an intense fatal fever. (It can cause the mysterious "spontaneous
combustion" deaths documented by the western media and television).
Energy healers know this as the "kundalini
syndrome". It can also be triggered off by excessive emotional stress, physical
suffering / stress, drugs, improper yoga and meditation practices, and certain
energy-blocking procedures (black tantra). These in turn lead to the kundalini syndrome
and resultant serious disease with one peculiar feature.
The odd feature is that under clinical medical
diagnostic procedures, nothing really seems to be wrong, or the doctors are unable to make
up their minds as to what might be wrong. There is no clear-cut pathological indication.
It manifests as a functional disorder first in the energy body (aura) of the individual.
Typically, this condition continues for many years -
the suffering one "patiently" continues to worsen and all diagnostic tests are
inconclusive. Finally, some pathology or event will suddenly appear such as
"galloping cancer", "infiltrating cancer", a stroke, a heart attack,
an undiagnosable wasting disease, a malabsorption syndrome, a sub-clinical tubercular
infection and so on.
Ayurveda identifies a major problem which occurs
through the forceful tearing open of the higher chakras in the energy body during
"ascension". The damaged chakras are prone to being "infected" by
life-forms called "elementals" (the bhutas of Ayurveda)37.
Occasionally a more evolved type of parasitic elemental will find its way into the higher
chakras.
When such elementals find their way down to the
seventh major chakra at the crown (or sahasraar chakra), the result is the manifestation
of multiple personalities within the host body. Clinically this is then called a multiple
personality disorder, or schizophrenia.
When we first came across Ayurvedic descriptions of
multiple personality disorder, we were quite unable to comprehend it. After working with
individuals suffering from such conditions and clairvoyantly observing them we were
startled to find that the statements of vedic texts were authentic and obviously based on
clairvoyantly observing what happens in the energy body.
Clairvoyantly seen, most of these entities are the
equivalent of say intestinal tapeworms, or bugs and cockroaches, while some are more
evolved and very nasty and difficult to eject. We have found that a combination of energy
healing treatments, and alternative medicines acting at the equivalent aura-body level
remove these entities in time. Sometimes it is a long time.
On all counts, the "ascension" procedure
is dangerous, unnecessary and a definite menace to the good health of the individual.
It must be avoided at all costs.
